COMMUNICATION IN LEADERSHIP
CLARITY, CULTURE & CONFLICT

Through real-case scenarios and a step-by-step proven process developed by Dr. Marshall Rosenberg, workplace leaders will discover how to better navigate conflict and communicate needs without blame or judgment, as well as learn to listen openly to others' needs without pre-conceived bias or volatile emotional reactions.

so what will i learn?
Develop self-regulating tools & increased emotional intelligence
The program starts with going inwards and examining internal conflict management strategies and emotional reactions in the face of pressure, misunderstanding and difference of opinions. Here, professionals will learn to:
-
adopt daily habits and practices that support good mental & physical health: tools like mindfulness and movement help mitigate stress and promote healthy connection with self, mind and body. We kick things off with a look at daily habits and practices as a means to improve and enhance mental health and stress management.
-
become aware of their own emotional reactions in the face of conflict and integrate self-regulation techniques to better manage volatile thoughts and impulses: as human beings, we are hard-wired to protect ourselves in the face of high-pressure situations. As such, it is vital to develop an awareness of our knee-jerk reactions like anger, avoidance, panic, and frustration when confronted with conflict and acquire mechanisms to diffuse internal volatile impulses and maintain level-headed professionalism regardless of the external situation at hand. Here, we focus on developing emotional awareness and integrating tools like the S.T.A.R.R. and "5 Chairs" models to de-escalate unproductive reactions that surge from within.
Learn how to put the four steps of non-violent communication into practice
Next, we segway into the subtance of the non-violent communication process, using real workplace scenarios and interactions, and:
-
explore how to describe situations and behaviours as facts, leaving judgment and blame aside: professionals will be intoduced to the first step in the NVC process whereby they practice how to describe problematic situations within their workplaces using langague that is devoid of blame or bias. We review elements of language, tone, approach and perspectives rooted in neutrality and observation.
-
practice how to convey feelings and needs in authentic ways fostering openess and understanding: by taking responsiblity for their own feelings and needs, professionals learn to communicate with authenticity and clarity, allowing their listener the opportunity to better understand how they work best and what demotivates them in workplace relationships and practices. This eliminates false assumptions from taking over and creates a space for honest exchange between both parties.
-
learn to make specific, actionable and positive requests that address distinct needs: the final piece of this process involves making requests that encourage collaboration that are not perceived as demands. This approach engenders mutual agreements, inclusive practices and cooperative solutions.
Increase empathetic listening skills while holding judgment at bay
We close out the NVC program by exploring real workplace situations in which participants can go futher in practicing empathetic listening and understanding other people's needs, feelings and requests. By the end of this training segment, leaders will:
-
learn to fully listen to another perspective without judgment, interruption or interpretation, and unearth the others' feelings and needs: in becoming impactful mediators, professionals must develop the capacity to empathetically listen without the need to immediately reply. In this part of the training, dyads will be challenged to work through common workplace scenarios and take on different roles and perspectives within a given situation. By practicing the four steps in the non-violent communication process in a fluid and real-case way, professionals integrate EQ skills and adaptation, as well as specific NVC language, approach and strategy that prepare them for actual workplace conflict and misunderstanding.
-
implement regular feedback sessions at their workplace within their teams: to close out the program, we encourage leaders to return to the workplace and coach team members on the NVC process, and implement regular feedback loops at their workplace to foster ongoing open dialogue and further develop empathy & understanding among team members.
