Across Cambodia and the region, many non-profit organizations are facing a shared reality:

donor funding is becoming increasingly competitive, unpredictable, and limited.

Yet the need for meaningful social impact has never been greater.

This 5-day Sustainability Planning short course is designed for non-profit leaders, managers, and program teams who want to future-proof their organizations—by reducing over-reliance on donor funding and exploring socially responsible, entrepreneurial approaches to sustaining their mission.

Rather than abandoning core values or purpose, this course supports organizations in strengthening their resilience, diversifying income streams, and building operational models that allow them to continue serving communities with integrity, creativity, courage, and confidence.

This course is about choice, adaptability, and long-term entrepreneurial thinking.

By the end of the 5 days, participants will:

Understand the evolving non-profit funding landscape
Gain practical tools to reduce donor dependency
Identify mission-aligned sustainability options
Develop a draft sustainability plan tailored to their organization
Strengthen leadership confidence in navigating change

Throughout the 5-day program spread over 2 weeks, participants will work on real sustainability challenges and/or opportunities within their organization, gradually building a practical roadmap they can refine and implement beyond the course.

Reframing Sustainability in a Changing Non-Profit Landscape

From donor dependency to strategic resilience

We begin by grounding participants in the realities facing today’s non-profits—globally and locally—while creating space for honest reflection and strategic clarity.

Participants will:

Examine shifting donor trends and funding constraints
Identify risks and limitations of donor-heavy operating models
Assess their organization’s current sustainability position
Clarify what long-term viability realistically looks like for their mission and context

This foundation helps organizations move forward intentionally, rather than reactively.

Aligning Mission, Impact & Earned-Income Opportunities

Exploring social entrepreneurship without losing purpose

Before exploring new revenue pathways, organizations must be clear on what creates value and impact.

In this module, participants will:

Revisit and clarify mission, programs, and value propositions
Identify strengths, assets, and underutilized capabilities
Explore ethical, mission-aligned earned-income and hybrid models
Assess which social entrepreneurship options may realistically fit their organization

The focus is not on chasing income, but on aligning sustainability strategies with purpose, values, and community needs.

Designing & Leading Sustainable Organizational Pathways

From ideas to action, culture, and long-term learning

In the final focus area, participants translate insight into practical, testable plans and prepare their organizations for change.

Participants will:

Design realistic sustainability pathways or pilot initiatives
Map costs, resources, risks, and assumptions
Engage teams and boards in sustainability conversations
Lead change with transparency, learning, and adaptability

By the end of the course, participants will have a clear sustainability roadmap they can refine and implement over time.
